Parquet Maintenance Guide

Our Paw Friends

Our floors are made to withstand the running around of our furry friends. If you have a dog at home, we recommend that you place doormats at the entrances of your home to prevent dirt and debris from entering the home.
The doormat also reduces the possibility of you bringing in dust, sand or mud from outside when you enter the house. Your pet may naturally tend to hold on to the floor with their nails, and in order to reduce their rapid movements inside the house, you can use a piece of carpet that you can put on the floor to prevent them from scratching the floor with their nails while holding on to it.

If your pet accidentally spills a liquid substance, immediately wipe up the spill with a damp cloth and continue with standard cleaning practices.

Protecting Under Furniture

First of all, we recommend that you lift your items instead of dragging them to prevent them from getting scratched. Furniture protective felts are a simple and inexpensive way to protect your new parquet. You can apply felts to the legs of your furniture such as chairs, tables, sofas, beds, etc. at home, and to your workspace in the office.
You can easily prevent scratches by using transparent protectors under the chairs in your areas. Another precaution to prevent scratches on your parquet floors is to move heavy furniture by lifting it instead of sliding it.

Relative Humidity and Temperature

It is very important to be aware of the relative humidity in your home to properly maintain the performance and health of your floor. Seasonal changes in weather conditions occur in many regions of Turkey and this can affect your parquet, which is a natural product. After application, appropriate climate conditions should be kept within constant limits.
This means that the ambient temperature should be between 18°C - 22°C and the air humidity should be between 45% - 60%. If these conditions are not met, cracks may occur in the parquet boards, capillary fractures may occur, the natural wood layer may separate from the wood support part or the parquet may swell.
For the dimensional durability of the wood and the well-being of the residents of the house, the parquet surface temperature in spaces with underfloor heating should not exceed 24°C.

Sunlight

The color of your hardwood floor will mature over time with exposure to sunlight. This will cause its color to change. Therefore, if there is any object that blocks the light (carpet, rug etc.) it should be replaced regularly to keep the color of your floor more uniform.

4 Steps Recommended by Hüni Parke:

1. Protect: Prevent cold winter air from entering your home by reducing vent leaks. Old windows, recessed lights, and other holes in the ceiling and floors are often major leaks. The less cold air that enters your home from the outside, the easier it is to maintain a higher relative humidity.

2. Keep track: You can buy an inexpensive relative humidity monitor to measure how your home is responding to the temperature, so you can easily determine when levels are low and your home needs a little more humidity.

3. Maintain: Make sure the relative humidity of your interior is between 45-60%.

4. Adjust: If you find it difficult to maintain the recommended relative humidity range, consider adding a humidifier to your home. Adding a humidifier to your home does more than just help your floors. Proper relative humidity helps protect all the wood in your home, and it can even help keep you healthier!

Parquet Cleaning

Laminate parquets are divided into two categories according to their finish surfaces: polished or oiled. Although the cleaning methods are basically the same, the cleaning products used differ. You can contact Hüni Parquet at any time and get information about the cleaning and maintenance equipment you need.

Using solvents, acid, bleach or duct tape can cause irreparable damage to the hardwood.

Since the parquet surface is microporous, cleaning it with excess water, using a steam cleaner or similar processes may damage the parquet.

Clean your parquets with a well-wrung damp cloth, use only water or a natural cleaning detergent mixed with water. When trying to remove a stain, always start from the outermost edge and apply towards the middle without spreading the stain.

If the floor is dirty after the initial installation of your laminate flooring or after renovations, we recommend cleaning it with a little soapy water. However, after the initial cleaning, dry methods should be preferred for daily cleaning.

No chemicals should be used without consulting our company. Chemicals that create a wax effect on the surface and are widely available for sale should be avoided.

Dry Cleaning

You need to protect your parquet floor from abrasive materials that accumulate on the parquet surface. Accumulated sand/sediment/mud and similar materials will cause your parquet to be scratched and damaged. Cleaning the floors daily using dry cleaning methods such as vacuuming or soft brooms and removing various abrasives will extend the life of your parquet.

Wet Cleaning

You can clean your wooden parquet floors with the recommended cleaning material at certain intervals. Dip your mop into the bucket of the cleaning solution you prepared, squeeze it completely and mop the floor in the direction of the wood grain. Always work with two buckets. Have soapy water in one bucket and clean water to rinse the dirty cloth or mop in the other.

Tufted mop heads are not recommended as they leave a lot of water behind.

For Oily Floors; Maintenance Using Oil

After a certain period of use, the oiled floor may appear a little worn and dull. In this case, it should be maintained with a small amount of maintenance oil. Before oiling, clean the floor with the recommended cleaner mixed with water. Apply the maintenance oil applied by spraying quickly and do not use your parquet floor for 4-5 hours after application. Wet cleaning can be done after 24 hours.
